Use the Genealogy Collection
The library has a limited collection of local history materials; however, the library cooperates with the Buchanan County Genealogical Society to get information to those seeking it.
The Independence Public Library has a few resources about local community and county history available for your perusal, but passes all requests for information on deceased individuals or family genealogy to the Buchanan County Genealogical Society. The genealogical society has such things as obituary files, newspapers, census records, probates, marriage indexes, birth records, cemetery files and records, etc. To contact the Buchanan County Genealogical Society:

Research may be done by visiting the genealogical library or by mail. Fees are $10.00 per hour to do research and $.30 per copy.
