Staff Development Day
January 16th the library closed to have staff development. We learned about ebooks and ereaders, online databases, Universal Class, and did a new website scavenger hunt. It was a great day and we learned a lot!
Santa Make 'n' Take
Santa came to the library in December! Kids were able to talk to Santa and make festive crafts for Christmas. Santa gave each child a book to take home!
Hunger Games
The Hunger Games is a very popular book by Suzanne Collins...and the movie comes out March 23rd in theaters. The library held a Hunger Game Night with contests for our very own tributes.
Stuffed Animal Sleepover
Children that completed the I Love My Library game brought their stuffed animals to sleepover at the library! See the pictures showing what the animals did while spending the night at the library.
Food for Fines
The library asked for food and monetary donations for the Independence Area Food Pantry as our amnesty month. We called it Food for Fines...check out the picture and the food and money totals!
Speech Showcase 2012
Many of the very talented speech students of Independence High School performed at the library's showcase on March 4.
Wii Wednesday
The second school early out of each month, the library offer Wii Wednesday. Kids in grades 3-8 have a great time playing Wii games. The fun begins at 1:30 pm.
Minute to Win It
In late December of 2011, kids participated in a library Minute to Win It event. They did all kinds of wacky challenges, trying to complete them in just one minute!
Winter Library Pictures
The snow on Feb. 24th was heavy and wet, but beautiful. Here are some pictures taken of the library that day.
I Love IPTV Drawings
Dan Wardell, of IPTV's Kids Clubhouse, goes on a Reading Road Trip to libraries around the state every summer. He has many, many requests and can't go to all the libraries. We are hoping that Dan might come to Independence this summer, so several students drew pictures of Dan doing something wacky at our library. One of these is also posted on the IPTV Kids Clubhouse Facebook Page!
Artist Showcase
The library features an artist with local ties during the 2nd weekend of each month. The Community Room is turned into a gallery with display panels which were purchased through a grant from the Buchanan County Community Foundation. See events on the right-hand side to find out what artist is next!
Author Heather Gudenkauf - CAMEO
Heather was a delightful speaker, sharing experiences from her writing, teaching, publishing, and family life. This New York Times Bestselling author is humorous, humble, and was a joy to have at our library.
