Author Catherine Coulter - CAMEO
- Catherine Coulter is the author of 68 novels...62 of them have been on the NY Times Bestseller List! We were so lucky to have her in Independence on April 21! She presented a wonderful Writers' Workshop and the presentation/book signing was so much fun!

Author Wanda Brunstetter - CAMEO
- NY Times Bestselling Author Wanda Brunstetter was here at the Independence Public Library on April 19! It was fun to hear stories about her Amish friends and Brunstetter's writing experiences.

Author Jim Aylesworth - CAMEO
- Picture book author and former first grade teacher, Jim Aylesworth, was here in Independence! He visited East Elementary, St. John's School, and our library. He has written 34 picture books! The kids and the adults had a great time during his presentations and book signings. It's easy to see why he is an award-winning teacher and author.

Artist Showcase
- The library features an artist with local ties during the 2nd weekend of each month. The Community Room is turned into a gallery with display panels which were purchased through a grant from the Buchanan County Community Foundation. See events on the right-hand side to find out what artist is next!

Hunger Games
- The Hunger Games is a very popular book by Suzanne Collins...and the movie comes out March 23rd in theaters. The library held a Hunger Game Night with contests for our very own tributes.

Stuffed Animal Sleepover
- Children that completed the I Love My Library game brought their stuffed animals to sleepover at the library! See the pictures showing what the animals did while spending the night at the library.

Food for Fines
- The library asked for food and monetary donations for the Independence Area Food Pantry as our amnesty month. We called it Food for Fines...check out the picture and the food and money totals!

Speech Showcase 2012
- Many of the very talented speech students of Independence High School performed at the library's showcase on March 4.

Wii Wednesday
- The second school early out of each month, the library offer Wii Wednesday. Kids in grades 3-8 have a great time playing Wii games. The fun begins at 1:30 pm.

I Love IPTV Drawings
- Dan Wardell, of IPTV's Kids Clubhouse, goes on a Reading Road Trip to libraries around the state every summer. He has many, many requests and can't go to all the libraries. We are hoping that Dan might come to Independence this summer, so several students drew pictures of Dan doing something wacky at our library. One of these is also posted on the IPTV Kids Clubhouse Facebook Page!

Staff Development Day
- January 16th the library closed to have staff development. We learned about ebooks and ereaders, online databases, Universal Class, and did a new website scavenger hunt. It was a great day and we learned a lot!

Minute to Win It
- In late December of 2011, kids participated in a library Minute to Win It event. They did all kinds of wacky challenges, trying to complete them in just one minute!

Santa Make 'n' Take
- Santa came to the library in December! Kids were able to talk to Santa and make festive crafts for Christmas. Santa gave each child a book to take home!

Author Heather Gudenkauf - CAMEO
- Heather was a delightful speaker, sharing experiences from her writing, teaching, publishing, and family life. This New York Times Bestselling author is humorous, humble, and was a joy to have at our library.
