Your Library Connection: Moving Forward...Together

The library has blossomed and grown in recent years.  In September, it will be the library’s five-year anniversary of opening the new facility.  During this time (and before), the community has supported, encouraged, and inspired us.  Thank you!  Everyone is invited to a Five-Year anniversary celebration of the Independence Public Library facility on Sunday, September 8 from 1 to 4 pm!

We will also be offering more and better opportunities this fall, and we will gather your ideas to help us pave the way into the future.  Find out how you can benefit from and assist us as we strive towards our mission:  To strengthen the community through an environment where exceptional service, relevant resources, and inspirational opportunities lead to individual growth and collaborative development.  Following is a potpourri of new offerings available now or coming soon:

Enjoy digital magazines, free through the library!  It’s called Zinio, and it is colorful, timely, and fun!  In mid-August, eMagazines will be available for you to subscribe to and enjoy on your computer or tablet (not currently compatible with Nook or Sony devices, but is on iPads, Kindles and many other popular mobile devices).  These are full color pages with links, the ability to zoom, and an
e-mail to alert you when the newest issue is available!

Tell us your wishes and thoughts in the library’s community survey that will be mailed to randomly selected households in September.  Your input on the survey will help the library board and staff better plan for the future!  If you get a survey, please fill it out and send it back in the provided self-addressed, stamped envelope.  If you don’t receive a survey, you can still give us your feedback through our web survey that will also be available at that time!

Take advantage of improved communications and ease of use with the library’s new management software that will be live in mid-August!  Search for materials, place holds, receive e-mail notifications, and enjoy using the mobile app when you use it on your smart phone or tablet.  It’s called Apollo, and it’s coming your way, thanks in part to a Buchanan County Community Foundation Grant!

Support us through the Library Wishlist!  Find the logo on the library’s homepage, www.independence.lib.ia.us, and see the library’s wishes – books, furniture, supplies, etc.  Legos, tables, DVDs, and books for all ages are currently on the list.  It’s easy to use and you are welcome to pay through a credit card or PayPal account.

Last, but not least, there will be a fabulous 5-Year Anniversary Celebration on Sunday, Sept 8.  From 1-4 pm, we will have magicians, a balloon artist, and other entertainers for you to enjoy.  Highlights of the building project (2006) through 2013 will be displayed, as well as demos/displays of some of our new offerings.  There will also be refreshments!  To coordinate with the celebration on 09/08, the library has a goal of 908 likes on our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/Independence.Public.Library) by that day.  Please like, share, and post!

If you have any questions about these or other library services, please stop in at 805 1st St East, call 334-2470, e-mail indylib@indytel.com, or message us on Facebook.
