News and BookNews

The Independence Public Library would like to introduce BookNews, a great new service for readers. BookNews gives readers access to free electronic newsletters about new titles through the library’s website, through Facebook, or delivered directly to your e-mail inbox.

Access the service with the BookNews link from the home page, found under the heading Audiobooks, eBooks, and Book Clubs.  If Facebook is preferred, go to the library page ( and click on the BookNews button, found by Likes, Photos, and Events.  Each newsletter will highlight approximately four new library books or titles in that category.  Read the newsletter on the web or through Facebook.  On the 15thor16th of each month, new books will be posted in each of the categories.  If e-mail works best, choose the newsletters and subscribe to them, which will also be sent to you on the 15th or 16th of the month.

Readers can select electronic newsletters based on genres, including new fiction, new non-fiction, mystery, business and technology, Christian fiction, science fiction, hot picks, and food and cooking.  Other categories include age (such as books for children and teens), large-print books, and audio books.

The newsletters include an image of the book cover, a summary of the book, and sometimes notes by the author. Links within the newsletters take subscribers to the library’s catalog.  Once at the catalog, you can search for the title you would like and find out if it is currently checked out or available.  If somebody else has it, feel free to place a hold!

If you explore the homepage, you will see many services…using our catalog, eBooks that you can download through NEIBORS, reserve a computer, find out about checking out a NOOK (with 90+ books on it), upcoming events, free classes through Learning Express, and more.  Find out more about the new opportunities below.
