Love your Neighbors (and your library, too)
Feel the love in February at your library…bring in Food for Fines, take part in the I Love My Library Contest, and see
children’s drawings depicting “What is love?” during the Artist Showcase.
February is I Love My Library Month, so we want to have fun, show you what the library can offer you, and spread the love. This year the library will be doing Amnesty Month in February with Food for Fines. This means we will erase $1 of fines in exchange for each food item brought to the library as a donation to the Independence Area Food Pantry. Food and fine money received during amnesty month will be given to the food pantry through the Feinstein Challenge, meaning the more donations received, the more money the local food pantry will receive from the Feinstein Foundation! You will have a clear account, a fresh new start at the library, and the knowledge that your donation was especially beneficial! Even if you don’t have a fine, the library welcomes your donations to the food pantry. Just bring your donations to the library as a convenient drop-off location during the month of February.
Love your Library when you participate in our I Love My Library Contest! Pick up a pink contest sheet or download it during February (start early for your best chance at completing the contest). Do as many of the activities on the ladder as you can. If you can check off five to eight items on the contest sheet, your loyalty will be rewarded. Examples of the activities are: check out three items from the library, bring a friend to the library, post a review, come to the Artist Showcase, try out an online database, etc. Become eligible for a grand prize when you complete eight of the challenges! The grand prizes are fun and friendly! Kids who receive a grand prize will bring a stuffed animal for a sleepover at the library (the stuffed animal will sleep over, not the child). What kinds of fun adventures will your animal have during an overnight at the library? The teen winner can invite friends to a private party at the library to watch a movie or play Wii games and eat! For adults, the winner will be able to have a private party and talk about books, movies, and have sweet treats (cake balls, chocolate, etc)!
See fun and endearing visuals drawn by K-2 students from East Elementary at the library’s Artist Showcase. Participating students will draw their idea of “What is Love?” The showcase will be open on Friday, Feb. 10 from 2-5 pm, Feb. 11 from 10 am – 4 pm, and Feb. 12 from 1-3 pm. It will be fun to see the creative pictures from budding artists! The Artist Showcase is a monthly event during the school year that takes place on the second weekend of each month. With display panels purchased with Buchanan County Community Foundation Grant Funds, the Community room is transformed into a gallery! View pictures of past Artist Showcases on the library’s website by clicking on the Pictures tab, then Artist Showcase.
So, help your neighbors (and your fine) with Food for Fines that will be counted towards the Feinstein Challenge. Take part in our library contest with the chance to win a fabulous prize. And, don’t forget to come in during the second weekend of February and view the children’s artwork, “What is Love?” We are looking forward to some heart-warming fun. I hope you will join us!
