The Independence Public Library is bringing an entire week of best-selling authors to Independence. CAMEO (Celebrating Authors: Meaningful Enrichment Opportunities) will debut this spring during the week of April 16-21. These opportunities are brought to you through monies raised by Spellbound II, LACES, and Friends of the Library.
The three CAMEO authors for April comprise a body of 150 published works and millions of books in print. Children's picture book author, Jim Aylesworth; Amish fiction author Wanda Brunstetter; and author of FBI thrillers and historical romances, Catherine Coulter, will round out the amazing author line-up.
Children's author, Jim Aylesworth, will be the first of the three authors. He will be at the library for a presentation and book signing on Monday, April 16 at 6:30 pm. He will also be visiting elementary schools in Independence on the 16th and 17th. Aylesworth has authored more than 30 books for children, including such titles as Old Black Fly, The Gingerbread Man, Our Abe Lincoln, and Cock-a-doodle-doo, Creak, Pop-Pop, Moo.
Aylesworth has read countless books to children, both as a first-grade teacher and throughout the United States as an author. Aylesworth’s interactive books are full of onomatopoeia and romping rhythm. He is an accomplished speaker in addition to his talents as an author and teacher.
Wanda Brunstetter, best known for her Amish fiction, will be visiting the library on Thursday, April 19 at 7:00 pm. Brunstetter has written almost 50 books with over 5 million copies sold worldwide. She is known as one of the founders of the Amish Fiction Genre.
Brunstetter’s books are based on personal research and are intended to portray the Amish way of life accurately. She is credited with giving readers a deeper understanding of the Amish people and their customs with books such as The Journey and The Storekeeper’s Daughter. Brunstetter will share her writing experiences, knowledge of the Amish culture, and answer questions during an evening presentation at the library. The presentation will be followed by a book signing.
Catherine Coulter has written 68 books and has over 70 million books in print worldwide, with 60 of her novels appearing on the New York Times Bestseller List. She is most famous for her FBI Thrillers like The Cove and Split Second, but she also writes historical romance novels like her newest, Prince of Ravenscar.
On, Saturday, April 21, Catherine Coulter will be presenting a publishing workshop entitled, Stranger in a Strange Land: How to Get Published in this Current Crazy Climate. Tickets for the workshop will cost $10. The workshop will cover publishing options, what it takes to get published, and will conclude with a question and answer session. Coulter will also do a presentation sharing her unique experiences as an author – prepare to laugh! A book signing will follow. The presentation and book signing will be free, but you will want to get a ticket for a guaranteed seat. Tickets for both Coulter events will be available beginning March 20 at the library.
The Independence Public Library is looking forward to bringing authors of such a high caliber to our community. These wonderful opportunities will offer insight and inspiration for all ages. With the exception of the Writer’s Workshop, all author events will be free. CAMEO, Celebrating Authors: Meaningful Enrichment Opportunities, will get off to a fabulous start in April. Writing, reading, and lifelong lessons will engage audiences through three amazing authors and one incredible week.
