Did You Know? (digital books & audios)

IPL has Free eBooks and Digital Audiobooks!

The Independence Public Library offers free access to thousands of ebooks and audiobooks through a program called NEIBORS. NEIBORS provides over 8,700 eBook titles and over 3,600 audiobook titles.

In addition to this, IPL has purchased additional ebooks to shorten the waiting lists and improve the selection of titles that you are looking for.  We have purchased 766 additional ebooks, bringing the total up to 9,477.  The additional titles are purchased by the library through a program called Advantage.  When you are on the NEIBORS site, you can see which titles are specifically for IPL because they have an orange sunburst logo with an “a” and a checkmark.

Go to our home page and click on NEIBORS (see button below) to borrow titles with your library card.  Make sure you sign in to NEIBORS before you search so you can see the Advantage titles as well as the NEIBORS titles.  Enjoy them on all major computers and devices, including PC, Mac, iPhone®, iPad®, Nook®, Android™ phones and tablets, and Kindle.

One of the best things about these digital downloads (other than they are free) during the cold winter months is that you can check them out from almost any location.  If you don’t want to leave home, you don’t have to.  Browse the collection, borrow with your library card, and enjoy.

There is a two-week lending period, and no late fees!  Just make sure you get your book read or listened to before it expires!

Here is a link to more information about NEIBORS.  There will be a few classes as well as drop-in tech help coming up in February.  Link to the calendar for a schedule or help with your questions.  Contact the Independence Public Library at or 319-334-4402.

In addition to ebooks and digital audiobook downloads, the library also offers digital magazines.  See Zinio.
